This past weekend, the whole family flew to Pittsburgh to visit my grandma, my only remaining grandparent, and my kids' only great grandparent. It was a mini-family reunion as we stayed with my Aunt and Uncle, my cousin drove in from MI, and my folks drove in from SC. Phew! That's a lot of family in one house... Thank goodness my aunt and uncle have a huge house.
Grandma lived out here in CO until 12/05, when she had to move from a retirement apartment to an assisted living facility, and it was deemed best to have her closer to more family. We hadn't seen her since then, and for me, it was painful to see how much difference 18 months has made. But I am very grateful for the time we were able to spend with her this weekend.
I took Lizard Ridge with me. Fortunately, when the flight attendant and woman on my right hand side managed to spill *an entire can of ginger ale* into my lap/onto my bum, they missed the Noro completely. My pants? Not so lucky. An apology from the flight attendant? None to be heard. Aside from its brush with near-wetness, Lizard Ridge did well on the trip with 2 squares completed, and a 3rd finished the morning after we got home. And, one square got to take an extra special field trip:
Ikea, baby! Pittsburgh has a cute, small Ikea, and of course, I had to go. The Hubby and I took a Swedish meatball related field trip on our own while my family took the kids to the Children's Museum, which we hear was a blast. but better than Ikea? Not possible.
Meanwhile, I did finish the 1st QoV top before I left last week.
I worked the leftover pieced blocks into a nice star layout that I'm going to piece and send to Deb S for a border- she has more of the original blue fabric at her place. Then, 2 tops for nearly the price of one! Now, I just need to finish the back of the finished top, and send it to the next stop: quilting!
If I ever have time to sew again...
Ah, Ikea. What is it about Ikea that we love so much? I like the quilt you made and I'm glad to hear that your yarn didn't get doused. Sorry your tush did though!

Ok, so I admit I'm an Ikea junkie too! Luckily it is far enough away that I don't get to drop in on a regular basis. Otherwise, where would all of my fabric money go? Eeeps!
Glad you had a good trip -- and thankfully only your tush got wet. What would have happened to the Noro?!?

It turned out really cute! It's kind of nice not to have to do the whole quilt isn't it?

I go to that Ikea everytime I visit my family in Ohio. We make it a BIG event. Which is pretty funny since it's just Ikea. :)

That is a really attractive quilt. Some gal will love it. Your grandmother is beautiful. Boo hoo, I've only seen IKEA online and in catalogs. I love their stuff.

Oh, no, now you've given me a new site to order from....
Love the quilt top! You and I were seperated at birth...we love the same colors and patterns.
I'm so glad you got to spend time with Grandma. We just had Hunnybunny's Grandma here. The Pickle just loves her to death.
Sorry about the flight attendant. People can be so rude!

That's it ... the gauntlet has been thrown down ... I must finish up my Lizard Ridge. (That is, finish seaming those stupid squares together.) Your photos are looking very lovely these days!

Glad they missed the fiber -- unfortunate that the way they did it was to soak you in soda! The joys of air travel -- even without small children its become an adventure only for the brave to navigate :-)

Glad you got to spend some time with your grandma... I am sure it was rough but it's good that you had the opportunity. Did PG remember her? And lucky you getting to go to Ikea - did you get any treasures?

The quilt looks great.
I was at a 21st party in a very swish restaurant once where the waitress spilt an entire tray of orange juice down the birthday girl's back. She did apologise, but there was no discount on the bill, or offer to pay for dry-cleaning.

ah...unbelievable rudeness from the flight attendent..I notice they really vary in how they "used to be"-some better, some worse. Love this quilt top! those colors rock Sam...that pattern is always great looking-well done.
Glad you were able to see your grandma-it's hard to watch elder family age - so it's good you went now-and Ikea...opening soon in Portland, can hardly wait! love that place.

I hear you like IKEA. That is fun to hear since it is a Swedish company. I like it too. When I lived in Monroeville, on the east side of Pittsburgh, I and my friends took a few trips to IKEA only to eat the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jam. Did you have the lingonberry to your meatballs? I don't know if the berries grow in your country or in Canada, but we here in Scandinavia love those berries.
