One Batch of Cookies, Done!

I can't believe it took me over a month to finish one pair of socks, but, it did...  And the only thing that finally actually got them done?  Being stuck in bed for the last few days with a minor case of whiplash.

Yeah, my big St. Patrick's Day party was taking myself to urgent care after we got rear-ended on the way home from dinner.  Whee.  The van is fine, the kids are fine, but I'm not totally fine.  Apparently even a small, slow accident can result in whiplash IF your head snaps forward and backward just the right (wrong?) way...

Vicodin, ice, and 5 pillows piled perfectly are helping, as are my mom, husband, neighbors and friends (who took the kids off of our hands for a bit.)  Meanwhile, I did a bit of knitting and finally finished these.

Pardon the lousy photos, but holding the camera up hurts. Wah, whine.  The pattern is called Ripple Leaf and is one of the 2 from the 1st Cookie A sock club shipment.  You probably can't tell from these bad photos, but the right and left socks are mirror images- very fun.  The leaf pattern wraps sideways around the top of each foot, and it is lovely.

I finished 2 more blocks for my crochet afghan, but the idea of getting them out and taking a photo or two is too much, so you'll have to trust me.  Sadly, due to the whiplash I ended up having to skip March's class.  I have the pattern, but, I'm not sure I get it just from words.  So I may have to stop by Fancy Tiger to get Cat to give me a quick lesson.

And as for sewing?  I think it will be a while before Iget to any of it.  Which is a total shame- the 5 quilts Deb finished for me were waiting on my doorstep when we got home after the accident.  They look AMAZING, but lord only knows when I will bind them now...

Blasts from the Past! To Be Finished at Last!

Those of you who know the fabulous Deb S will also know that she recently got a longarm machine...and that she was looking for UFOs that she could practice on, finish, and donate.  I have (cough cough) a few UFOs laying around, and so I sent her 3 to play with.  Remember these?

 

The top one is recent-ish- made for Annie, and abandoned by me after it didn't meet my expectations.  Then the purple one- it looked so much better in my head, and when I realized that I thought it was done, but it wasn't wide enough for my bed, it too was abandoned.  And those Asian blocks?  I started that top sometime before 2005- when it matched my living room- and then we moved.  Pieced the blocks together in late 2006.  Ignored it until 2011.  Ooops. 

So off all three went to Deb, to be practiced upon and then donated to a good home.  Deb, being fabulous, actually found a buyer for the purple quilt, and the sale helped offset the cost of my new iPad (1st generation, not 2nd- the price dropped dramatically on those when the 2nd gen was revealed...)

Then I sent Deb ANOTHER box full of tops.  But I wanted this batch back- so we worked out a deal :-)

This one was meant to be snuggled under while I watched Project Runway, and it also looks lovely in our family room, color-wise at least.

 

This one came from Denyse Schmidt's book- and there used to, at least, be a free web version of the templates, too, and I adore it, even though my subpar piecing left it just a bit wonky.  It's been waiting nearly 4 years to be finished.  The curse of a piecer who hates to actually quilt, eh?

 

And this was from my brief lived stint of using all matchy fabrics from one line in a quilt.  I really don't enjoy that, but this line was practically designed to match my family room.  Hot pinks, lime greens, and bright blues...  Yum.

So Deb will play with these and send them back to me, their neglectful mom, and after years and years, they'll finally be finished objects.  VERY exciting. 

Now to deal with my remaining UFOs- several wall hanging sized tops Ihave no excuse for not finishing, and one fabulous crazy one that is so wonky I'm not ever sure it can be quilted.
