It's been an odd week around here. Super crazy sub-arctic temps that actually ended up with bringing about 2 days off from school for the kids- and some forced time off from work for me. There was also some drama related to my PTSD from Annie's birth, whee. The gift that keeps on giving. Bah. And then, oddly, I won one of the 2 billion or so internet contests that I so love to enter- catering for 20 from Noodles for Superbowl Sunday. (We were one of 250 winners out of over 16,000 entries!) Very funny prize for folks that don't watch football, but in honor of the food, we are having a bunch of friends over for what will probably be our First And Last Superbowl Spectacular...and we promised them all we will actually turn on the game ;-) BTW, due to familial obligations, we are a Steelers house. Which is good, because all our guests are rooting for the Steelers as well. But we plan to be so busy scarfing down Noodles while we count down to the post-game Glee episode that not much else will matter.
When I was home with the kids yesterday, I spent many hours dialed into my work computer being a responsible employee. And then- I put the borders onto the Monkeyshines quilt!
I love how much lighter and more baby-friendly the quilt got with the addition of the light blue. I was worried it would make the quilt too masculine- since we don't know what flavor the new addition will be- but I don't think it did. The parents are convinced that the baby is a boy, so hopefully it won't even matter. Though I was kind of hoping for a baby girl cousin so I could knit tiny dresses and girly hats and booties and such... The binding will be one of the polka dots from this line- white w/red and brown dots, and the back is the all over sock monkey print on red flannel, all the better for snuggling with. Let's hope I can get it quilted ASAP. I was thinking Sunday, but it appears I'm having that accidental party instead...
Oh, the other (unexpected but )awesome thing that happened this week? I had been on the wait list for the Cookie A sock club. I missed the original sign ups, and was kind of relieved because it meant I was saving the money. But Cookie A is my favorite sock designer, and the idea of an all-Cookie, all top-down, almost all semi solid sock club was pretty hard to resist, so I signed up for the wait list just in case- and I got a spot! It took me all of 30 seconds to decide this was meant to be...and to sign up and fork over the cash. The first shipment should come in the next week or two- and I can't wait!
