(I swear there will be some fabric and quilt photos soon... my long awaited package from Fabric.com finally broke free from weather-delay hell and arrived tonight. Funky monkeys and fabulous Parisville purples galore...)
But in the meantime, I've got a brand new project going. I'm lucky enough to live near a wonderful craft mecca, Fancy Tiger. They carry luscious fabrics, yarns, and supplies, and also have some of the most amazing classes around. Last year I dabbled a bit in crochet...but you'll have to take my word for it as it seems it was during my blogging blackout. As always, I kind of sort of got the hang of it, but not really. And yet I still want to learn.
And then I saw Cat's Afghan (rav link). Go look- I'll wait.
Wow, huh? Cat is teaching the afghan, one square per month, at Fancy Tiger. Class=free with purchase of yarn. So look what I got!
(thank you for the birthday gift certificate, honey.)
The one-Saturday-per-month class started last week. I talked a friend into signing up with me, which is making it extra fun. We dove right into the first block, and 2 hours later, here I was:
Are you impressed yet?
How 'bout now?
One twelfth of the way there! Well, except for the border... I cast on (do you say that in crochet?) a second block, same stitch pattern, different color combo. But can you spot the problem with Block #2?
Yup, the right side is magically shrinking. I have the damndest time figuring out where the actual end of a row is. This is where I think knitting trumps crochet- the handy, easily countable stitches all strung along the length of a nice needle... But hey, sometime over the course of this year, I'm bound to figure it out, right? Stay tuned.
