Sunday Stash #1
Well, I promised to make Sundays all about my stash fabric, so here I go. I thought I'd kick this off with one of my favorite golden oldies. I bought an absolutely obscene 5 yards of this fabric after I discovered the joys of stack n whack. (In fact, there's a huge pile of a fun Route 66 print languishing in the same drawer as Frida... for a short while I was on a large scale novelty print buying binge.) I made 4 stack n whacks, of which I am thoroughly ashamed to admit 2 are in the UFO pile. And then, my love affair with the the oeuvre cooled. So, poor Frida was relegated to my bursting "novelty" drawer along with some other treasures. I fell in love with Frida Kahlo when I was an angst ridden high school sophomore, and the love continues. Soon, I hope to find an idea to do her justice through the fabric.
The closet organizing got off to a good start today. The whole family went to Target where we bought 9 storage bins in assorted sizes for me. (We also bought 3 sweaters a skirt, a shirt, various Halloween goodies, 2 tablecloths, new cloth napkins, goldfish crackers, and even refilled a prescription- it is SO true that you cannot get out of Target for less than $100!) The bins got me off to a good start today, but I'll be needing more ASAP. Today's biggest challenge: sorting through my monster scrap bin. As you can see, I had a lot of help! The Hubby and Train Boy decided fabric scraps were just as good as a pile of leaves...
I was also able to escape to Goodwill for a little bit today, and my new thrifty finds can be viewed either at Flickr (see right hand sidebar for badge) or my blog album (see left hand sidebar). I have truly gotten addicted to Thrifting. In fact, I have even joined a Flickr group all about Nifty Thrift.
And, hey, thanks everyone for all the great comments as of late. Bonnie, I appreciate your compliments on my tops, as well as the agreement over various levels of UFOs. Vicki, I usually send my tops to the local quilt shop where I used to work, BUT, their wait time is pretty long. I am going to try Quilt Maverick's own leading lady, Bonnie, very soon! Pamela, hope you got some tattoo fabric of your own! Wendy, a quilt isn't done until it is made into a "sandwich"- top, batting, bottom, and then quilted together, and then finally bound (when the edges are sewn up). The actual quilting is my least favorite step. I like to make the tops- piecing, esp. playing with color and design. Sharon, I promise to have LOTS of fabric to share as time goes by. I have so much, Stash Sunday will probably have to address more than 1 piece weekly, or I'll have to blog until I'm 90! It's so nice to find comments and know I'm not just typing to hear myself talk. Or whatever the appropriate computer metaphor would be...
